Moths Information

A collection of moth photo and picture galleries. Moths are insects of the order Lepidoptera with stout, chunky bodies and hairlike, feathery antennae of various shapes and sizes - but not clubbed. There are a wide variety of species including large brightly coloured ones, such as hawk moths, and small inconspicuous types, such as the clothes moth. They are similar to butterflies in many ways but have distinct differences - physically there is an absence of the clubbed antennae found on butterflies and their bodies are bigger. Also, whereas butterflies are active by day, moths are nocturnal creatures. They are also very attracted to light, hence the phrase “ like a moth to the flame “
