Big Ben at Night

Some photos of the classic London landmark Big Ben at nightime in the twilight hours of late evening on a warm August night. The iconic old clock was looking in good form for all of its 155 odd years and was nicely illuminated with a bright face and green halo. Big Ben is officially called the Great Bell and it sits atop the Elizabeth Tower. Nobody knows for sure how it got its nickname but 2 popular theories are that Big Ben was named after either Sir Benjamin Hall, the 1st Commissioner of Works until 1859, or Ben Caunt, a popular heavyweight boxer of the 1850’s, or maybe both of them.
