Sparrows

Selection of sparrow photos from the UK, including house sparrows, tree sparrows and juveniles. Sparrows are very finch-like birds and the young ones especially have no distinctive markings so some of the photos here I might have labelled as sparrows when they are, in fact, finches. In which case, erm, sorry bout that. 🙂

The sparrow is a populous bird across the United Kingdom and Europe,  and a common bird in many habitats – urban and countryside. It will be found in suburban gardens at birdfeeders and also in hawthorn bushes at roadsides and in the countryside, bordering fields and farmsteads. The sparrow is also referred to as the true sparrow or old world sparrow, to differentiate it from the other similarly named birds such as the american sparrow or java sparrow.
