Stained Glass Designs from the Arts and Crafts Movement

These stained glass designs and motifs can be found decorating numerous windows in Stoneacre House near Maidstone in Kent.

The Arts and Crafts movement was an international arts movement that flourished in late Victorian / early Edwardian times, between 1880 and 1910, and remained an influence well into the 1930’s. It promoted traditional craftsmanship and championed the artisan. In this sense the movement was opposed to industrialisation, which removed the skill of the artisan from the production process and replaced it with unskilled labour, machines and homogenisation.

These folksy, naturalistic stained glass designs were added to the house during Edwardian times, around the 1920’s.
